as of 11 PM SWAT team members have located deceased male with firearm nearby

The sheriff’s office in neighboring Shoshone County has announced an active shooter situation near Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, with the shooter still at large. Authorities have urged residents to avoid the area surrounding Canfield Mountain Trailhead and Nettleton Gulch Road, approximately 4 miles north of downtown Coeur d’Alene, where a fire is still burning.

As of Sunday afternoon, the sheriff confirmed that two individuals have been killed, and law enforcement is still facing sniper fire.

Coeur d’Alene, a city with a population of 55,000 near the Washington border, experienced a tragic incident when a suspect opened fire on firefighters responding to a fire outbreak. The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office indicated that crews arrived at Canfield Mountain around 1:30 p.m., shortly before reports of gunfire began to surface about 30 minutes later. The status of the firefighters and whether anyone else was injured remains unclear.

Governor Brad Little commented that “multiple” firefighters have been attacked in this ongoing situation. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
