PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Eagles were already without several key players when they hosted the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. The injury trouble continued during the game, and a fourth-quarter comeback by the Rams handed Philadelphia a 24-20 loss at Lincoln Financial Field.
The Eagles were without wide receiver DeVonta Smith, tight end Dallas Goedert, linebacker Zack Baun, safety Marcus Epps and offensive tackle Fred Johnson. Right tackle Lane Johnson was also inactive for personal reasons. Running back Saquon Barkley left in the first quarter with a hamstring injury and was ruled out.
Philadelphia also lost linebacker Jonathan Greenard, who was ruled out with an ankle injury, and running back Tank Bigsby was hurt late in the fourth quarter. The Eagles did not have a touchdown in the second half as the available offense struggled to sustain drives.
The Eagles built a 20-10 halftime lead after Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford threw two interceptions. Jalen Hurts connected with Darius Cooper for a touchdown, and Jake Elliott added two field goals, including a 56-yarder.
But Philadelphia could not extend its lead. With a chance to score from the Rams’ 2-yard line in the fourth quarter, the Eagles turned the ball over on downs. Los Angeles answered with a long touchdown drive, then scored again with 1:10 remaining to take the lead for good.
Hurts finished 12-of-27 for 93 yards and two touchdowns. The Rams held Philadelphia to 172 total yards and kept the Eagles from converting a third-down attempt. Los Angeles improved to 2-2, while Philadelphia also moved to 2-2.
The Eagles now turn their attention to Week 5, when they are scheduled to face the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.
