A fire broke out Wednesday morning in a rowhome on North 13th Street, resulting in six injuries. Deputy Fire Chief Christian Williams reported that one individual inside the home required rescue.
During the incident, two firefighters fell through a hole on the second floor, injuring two additional firefighters below. Deputy Chief Matt Eharth commented, “Everyone in the city was called to respond. We also had mutual aid companies come in to assist.”
Fire crews successfully rescued one person from the first floor, who remains hospitalized. The two firefighters who fell landed on two others on the first floor, leading to their injuries. Of the four injured firefighters, two were transported to the hospital but have since been released. Eharth stated that out of the six total injured, four required hospitalization. Additionally, a fourth individual injured, from a neighboring building, has also been discharged from the hospital.
Two residents have been displaced due to the fire, and two neighboring buildings suffered smoke and water damage. Eharth noted, “The fire was contained rather quickly. It was in the middle of the row, and we were able to keep it limited to one unit.”
The cause and origin of the fire are still under investigation.
