The National Weather Service has issued a warning about an increased risk of fire spread on Wednesday. Relative humidity levels are expected to drop to about 35 to 45 percent across much of the area. This, combined with south to southwest winds at 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph, temperatures in the upper 70s to around 80 degrees, and abundant sunshine, will create conditions that support the spread of any fires that start, making them difficult to control.
It is strongly advised to avoid outdoor burning. Ensure that any potential ignition sources, including cigarette butts, are properly extinguished or disposed of. For more information on burn restrictions in your local area, please refer to your state’s forest fire management agency.
Relative humidity levels will be even lower on Thursday, accompanied by stronger winds. Given the very dry conditions and lack of recent rainfall, burn restrictions may still remain in place.
