The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has reported that the black box, containing the cockpit voice recorder, has been successfully recovered from the site of the recent air ambulance crash in Philadelphia. The device was located at a depth of 8 feet and is expected to provide critical data to help investigators understand the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. As the investigation continues, officials confirm that seven people have died, and the number of injured individuals has now risen to 22, with the potential for more casualties to be identified.
The Learjet 55 was carrying a mother and her child, along with four other passengers, when it crashed at approximately 6 p.m. Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker remarked, “It was only airborne for a short period before something went terribly wrong and it crashed.”
During a Sunday afternoon press conference, Mayor Parker highlighted the importance of accurate information amid a surge of misinformation on social media. “We are being very intentional in reinforcing the facts,” she stated.
Witnesses of the disastrous incident have described the scene as horrific. All six individuals onboard the flight lost their lives, along with one person on the ground. Mayor Parker confirmed that all six victims were Mexican citizens.
The identities of those on the plane have been released:
- Alan Montoya Perales – Pilot
- Josue de Jesus Juarez – Co-Pilot
- Rodrigo Lopez Padilla – Paramedic
- Dr. Raul Meza Arredondo – Physician
- Valentina Guzman Murillo – Pediatric patient, who was in the city for care at Shriners Children’s Hospital
- Lizaeth Murillo Osuna – Valentina’s mother
“This investigation is crucial for everyone involved and is important for ensuring safety in the future. We are taking deliberate actions and ask for patience as recovery efforts will continue for several days,” officials noted during the update. They encouraged the public to regularly check the NTSB’s website for the latest updates and to call 988 for support if they have experienced trauma related to this incident.
