LEVITTOWN, Pa. — A Bucks County man has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the gruesome killing and beheading of his father, an act he recorded and uploaded to YouTube, prompting widespread shock and a swift investigation by local and federal authorities.
Justin Mohn, 33, of Levittown, was convicted Friday by Judge Stephen Corr following a bench trial in Doylestown. Mohn admitted to fatally shooting his father, Michael Mohn, inside their home on January 30, 2024, before using a kitchen knife and machete to decapitate him.
The murder was not only committed but also documented. Authorities say Mohn recorded the killing in a 14-minute video and posted it publicly online. Prosecutors described the act as both premeditated and deeply extremist, intended to intimidate government workers and provoke public fear.
“This was not a moment of madness. This was a calculated act of domestic terrorism cloaked in personal vengeance,” prosecutors told the court.
Mohn’s father, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers employee, was allegedly targeted due to his government affiliation. In court, Mohn defended the killing by claiming he was attempting to perform a “citizen’s arrest” for what he called “treason.” When his father allegedly resisted, Mohn said he moved to “Plan B.”
The shocking crime scene was discovered by Mohn’s mother, Denice, who testified tearfully during the trial. She found her husband’s mutilated body and immediately called police.
After the killing, Mohn fled the scene in his father’s vehicle and drove to Fort Indiantown Gap, where he attempted to rally National Guard troops to his cause. Armed with a handgun, ammunition, and a USB drive containing bomb-making instructions, Mohn was arrested without incident at the base.
During the investigation, authorities uncovered militia-related writings, online manifestos, and disturbing search histories on explosives and anti-government plots. The court found this evidence compelling in classifying the act as terrorism.
Judge Corr sentenced Mohn to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Additional charges include abuse of a corpse, criminal use of a communication facility, and terroristic threats.
COMMUNITY IMPACT
The case has rocked the Levittown community, with local leaders calling it one of the most disturbing crimes in recent Bucks County history. Mental health and crisis resources have been offered to students and residents who may have encountered the viral video before it was removed from online platforms.
CONTINUED COVERAGE
Authorities say the investigation is closed, and Mohn will be transferred to a state correctional facility in the coming days. There is no indication at this time of any appeal.
