DICKSON CITY, Pa. — A late-night fire damaged part of the orthopedic institute at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Dickson City on Wednesday, prompting the evacuation of dozens of patients and a large emergency response.

The blaze broke out around 9:40 p.m. at the orthopedic institute located along Main Street in Dickson City Borough. According to Dickson City Fire Department, crews were dispatched for reports of a fire on the roof of the hospital.

Firefighters quickly determined the flames were concentrated in the roof of the building’s original section — formerly known as Scranton Orthopedics — which now operates as an LVPG orthopedic outpatient facility. That structure is physically connected to the newer Lehigh Valley Hospital building.

Officials said the fire remained contained to the orthopedic facility and did not spread into the main hospital itself. However, smoke and water damage were reported inside portions of the hospital complex as crews worked to extinguish the blaze.

No injuries were reported as a direct result of the fire. Still, 77 people were evacuated as a precaution and evaluated in a triage area established by emergency personnel. The county’s emergency management agency confirmed all evacuated patients were transported to other hospitals for continued care.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal Unit.
