LEHIGH VALLEY, Pa. — Pennsylvania State Police have announced a DUI checkpoint operation aimed at keeping holiday travelers safe as traffic increases across the region.
Troopers say the checkpoint will be active at undisclosed locations in the Lehigh Valley and will focus on identifying impaired drivers, enforcing seat belt laws, and reducing dangerous driving behaviors.
Officials say these holiday enforcement efforts are critical, as DUI-related crashes typically increase between Thanksgiving and New Year’s. The checkpoint will run in tandem with roving patrols targeting speeders, aggressive drivers, and individuals suspected of driving under the influence.
State Police are reminding drivers to plan ahead, designate a sober driver, and avoid getting behind the wheel if they’ve consumed alcohol or drugs.
“Drive safely. We want everyone to make it home to their families this holiday season,” a PSP spokesperson said.
Motorists may experience brief delays during checkpoint operations. Police say the goal is deterrence, not inconvenience — stressing that DUI enforcement saves lives and reduces serious injuries on Pennsylvania roadways.
