
UPPER MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. — One person has died following a serious crash involving two vehicles and heavy entrapment Thursday evening on Route 100 in Lehigh County.
The crash occurred around 6:15 p.m. on Route 100, just north of Mohr Lane and Beechwood Street near the Lowhill Township line, according to authorities.
Police say a pickup truck traveling southbound crossed into the opposite lane and collided with a northbound Honda Civic. The impact left one of the vehicles on its side, with responders reporting heavy entrapment at the scene.
Firefighters and rescue crews worked to extricate trapped occupants. Both drivers were transported to local hospitals for treatment. Authorities confirmed that one of the drivers later died from their injuries.
Route 100 was shut down for several hours to allow for accident reconstruction and investigation, reopening around 11:15 p.m.
The Upper Macungie Township Police Department is actively investigating the crash, including the circumstances that caused the pickup truck to cross into oncoming traffic.
No additional information, including the identity of the victim, has been released at this time.
