READING, Pa. – A brush fire that ignited overnight on Neversink Mountain is still burning. Fire officials report that they have managed to prevent the fire from reaching nearby homes. However, they will continue to work on containing the fire and monitoring hot spots for several days.
Berks County Communications confirmed that the brush fire was reported around 11:30 p.m. on Friday in the area of Neversink Mountain Road in Alsace Township. The fire spread rapidly, prompting optional evacuations, which have since been lifted. Firefighters are requesting donations and supplies to support the fire crews, which can be dropped off at the Plum and Franklin Fire stations in Reading.
