Neighbors Sue Gov. Josh Shapiro — Governor Files Countersuit in Property Dispute

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Pa. — A federal lawsuit filed by neighbors of Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro over an alleged property dispute has now escalated, as the governor has formally filed a countersuit.

The neighbors initially filed suit in federal court alleging that Shapiro, his wife, and the Pennsylvania State Police unlawfully claimed or restricted access to a portion of their private property near the governor’s Montgomery County residence. The complaint argues that security measures tied to the governor’s position interfered with their lawful use of their land.

In response, Shapiro filed a countersuit in Montgomery County court asserting that he is the rightful owner of the disputed property. Court filings indicate the governor is seeking a declaratory judgment confirming his ownership and rejecting the neighbors’ claims.

The case now involves parallel legal actions — a federal civil rights claim from the neighbors and a state-level property ownership challenge from the governor.

At the center of the dispute is whether security-related restrictions amount to an unlawful taking of private property, or whether the land in question legally belongs to the governor.

The matter will now proceed through the court system.

This remains a developing legal situation.
