JACKSON TWP., N.J. (Ocean County) – A sudden lightning strike in Jackson Township on Wednesday led to a mass casualty incident, leaving multiple people injured and one person in critical condition.
Emergency officials confirmed that 11 patients were evaluated after the strike in the 600 block of Perrineville Road. First responders reported that CPR was in progress on at least one patient as they worked urgently to stabilize victims on scene.
Fire crews, EMS units, and police officers converged on the location shortly after the incident was reported. Authorities say patients are being triaged and transported to area hospitals as quickly as possible.
Officials have not released the identities or ages of the victims, and it’s not yet clear what gathering or activity brought them to the area when the strike occurred.
