NORTH WALES, Pa. — A physical education teacher at Montgomery Elementary School and coach in the North Penn School District has been charged with sexual offenses involving three minors, including a former student.
Jason Theodore, 54, of Upper Gwynedd, was arrested Sept. 25 by Upper Gwynedd Township police. The investigation began earlier this month after a young adult reported alleged abuse that began when he was about 13 years old, according to authorities.
Investigators later identified two additional victims who said they met Theodore online. Prosecutors allege the abuse occurred between 2019 and 2023, and that the victims were between 13 and 16 when the alleged abuse began.
One of the victims had previously been Theodore’s student. Investigators said the victim reported that Theodore contacted him after he was no longer in his class. Authorities also allege Theodore contacted the victims online, solicited sexually explicit material and provided them with alcohol and marijuana.
Theodore faces felony charges including involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, statutory sexual assault and unlawful contact with a minor, along with related offenses. He was arraigned and denied bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 1 at 10 a.m.
Theodore worked as a physical education teacher at Montgomery Elementary and coached wrestling at Pennbrook Middle School. He also coached local hockey and was involved with the district’s IRONKnights Elementary Triathlon.
North Penn School District Superintendent Todd M. Bauer said police notified the district about the investigation on Sept. 9. Theodore was placed on administrative leave after the district was notified, and the district said it is cooperating with law enforcement.
The district said police informed officials there was no evidence at that time that the alleged acts took place on school property. Counselors are being made available to students at Montgomery Elementary, Pennbrook Middle School and North Penn High School.
