PLYMOUTH TWP., Pa. (Montgomery County) — Two police officers were hospitalized Friday afternoon after being struck multiple times by a driver in the parking lot of the DoubleTree Hotel near Hickory and Narcissa roads.

Authorities say the incident unfolded around 12:39 p.m. after officers responded to reports of an erratic driver in a white SUV in the area. Minutes later, police located the vehicle outside the hotel.

According to investigators, the suspect intentionally backed into one of the responding officers upon arrival. When the officer exited his vehicle, he fired his weapon as the driver accelerated directly toward him.

Deputy Chief Thomas Nolan of the Montgomery County Detectives said the suspect then turned around in the parking lot and struck the officer multiple additional times.

“He’s trying to put on a tourniquet. The vehicle drives directly at him, striking him a second time. The vehicle then backs up two additional times and strikes the officer intentionally,” Nolan explained.

A second officer, arriving as backup, was also hit head-on by the same vehicle moments later.

Both officers were transported to area hospitals and are reported to be in stable condition, according to Nolan.

The suspect was taken into custody at the scene and transported to a hospital with injuries of unknown severity. Investigators are still determining whether the suspect was struck by gunfire during the confrontation.

Authorities are also investigating whether the white SUV is connected to other recent reports of erratic driving in Montgomery and Chester counties.

The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office and Plymouth Township Police are jointly investigating the incident.
