Quakertown Borough officials have confirmed that Police Chief Scott McElree is currently out on workers’ compensation leave following the February 20 protest incident that drew widespread public attention.

The borough solicitor stated that McElree sustained injuries during the confrontation that occurred amid a student-led demonstration in town. Video footage from that day circulated heavily on social media, showing tense interactions between protesters and officers as police worked to maintain order.

Officials have not publicly released specific details regarding the nature or severity of the chief’s injuries. No timetable has been provided for his return to active duty.

The Feb. 20 incident led to multiple arrests and remains under review through standard procedures. As with any case involving use-of-force concerns or officer injury, the matter has drawn scrutiny from both the public and county authorities.

Juvenile cases tied to the protest remain confidential under Pennsylvania law, limiting the public release of certain details.

Borough leadership has indicated that operations within the police department continue uninterrupted during the chief’s absence.

This remains a developing situation.
