ALLENTOWN, Pa. — A fierce third-alarm fire tore through several row homes in Allentown earlier today, prompting a massive response from city firefighters and mutual-aid companies as flames rapidly spread through the block.
The fire broke out late Saturday morning on the 500 block of Allen Street, sending thick smoke across the neighborhood and drawing dozens of emergency crews to the area. Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire conditions and immediately stretched multiple lines while searching the affected homes.
Residents Rescued, At Least One Injured
During initial operations, firefighters performed at least one dramatic rescue, pulling a resident from a third-floor window as flames and smoke intensified. That individual was transported by EMS to a local hospital. The full extent of injuries remains unknown.
Fire officials say multiple families — including several children — have been displaced as a result of the incident. Local emergency agencies and community partners are working to assist those affected.
Large-Scale Response
The intensity of the fire quickly resulted in the incident being upgraded to a third alarm, bringing in additional manpower, aerial trucks, and rapid intervention teams. Crews attacked the fire from both the interior and exterior, working to keep it contained to the row-home cluster and prevent further spread.
Firefighters remained on scene for several hours, chasing hot spots and ventilating the upper floors.
Cause Under Investigation
The Allentown Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the blaze. Early reports do not indicate any suspicious circumstances, but officials will continue gathering information and interviewing witnesses.
Further details will be released as the investigation progresses.
