WASHINGTON, D.C. — New details have emerged following the shooting incident that disrupted the White House Correspondents’ Dinner Saturday night in Washington, D.C.

Authorities say gunfire erupted near the main security screening area of the event at the Washington Hilton while President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Cabinet officials, journalists, and hundreds of guests were inside.

According to the U.S. Secret Service, one suspect was quickly taken into custody following the incident. President Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and all other protected officials were safely evacuated from the ballroom without injury.

Early reports indicate a Secret Service agent was struck during the shooting but was protected by a bullet-resistant vest and is expected to recover.

Witnesses inside the ballroom reported hearing multiple shots before Secret Service agents rushed in, drawing weapons and ordering attendees to take cover. Guests reportedly ducked under tables as security teams evacuated top officials from the venue.

Law enforcement has not yet released the suspect’s motive, and the investigation remains ongoing.

President Trump later confirmed in a statement that the suspect had been apprehended and praised law enforcement for their rapid response.

The White House Correspondents’ Dinner was canceled following the incident and is expected to be rescheduled.

This remains a developing story and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
