ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Two officers with the Allentown Police Department were taken to the hospital Friday afternoon after assisting in the rescue of residents from a house fire on South 10th Street, city officials confirmed.

Shortly after [insert approximate time, e.g., 3:15 p.m.], police and fire crews were dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 700 block of South 10th Street. Initial reports indicated that people were still inside the home when first responders arrived.

Upon arrival, officers entered the burning residence to help guide occupants to safety as smoke and flames intensified. Their swift action helped ensure all residents were removed from the home before fire conditions worsened.

Both officers were transported to a local hospital following the rescue. Authorities said their injuries were non-life-threatening, and they were being evaluated and treated for conditions consistent with smoke inhalation and heat exposure. No further details about their conditions have been released at this time.

Fire crews worked to bring the blaze under control and to secure the scene. The extent of the damage to the home has not yet been determined.

Emergency medical personnel evaluated the rescued occupants at the scene. Officials did not immediately release information on whether any civilians required hospital treatment.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Allentown Fire Department’s fire investigation unit. Investigators are continuing to assess the scene and speak with witnesses.

City officials say additional details will be released as they become available
