Two people have died and two others are injured following a multi-vehicle crash on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Upper Moreland Township.
Pennsylvania State Police responded to the eastbound lanes of I-276, between the Willow Grove and Fort Washington exits, around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday. According to a witness, two vehicles appeared to be racing when they lost control and crashed into the barriers at high speeds, resulting in the deaths of both drivers.
Following the initial collision, a third vehicle struck one of the disabled vehicles in the roadway. The two occupants of the third vehicle sustained minor injuries.
Several vehicles passing through the crash scene ran over debris, resulting in flat tires and other damages.
The eastbound lanes of the Pennsylvania Turnpike between the Willow Grove and Fort Washington exits were closed for several hours Sunday morning as police conducted their investigation. They have since reopened.
