WARMINSTER TWP., Pa. (BUCKS COUNTY) — Two neighbors from Warminster Township have been charged after allegedly stealing more than $20,000 from their 88-year-old neighbor both before and after her death in October 2024, according to Bucks County prosecutors.
The Allegations
Authorities say the suspects — a man and woman who lived next door to the victim — gained access to her home and bank accounts during the final months of her life, using stolen checks and debit card transactions for personal gain.
Investigators allege the pair continued withdrawing money and making purchases after the woman’s passing, concealing the activity from her family and the estate.
Warminster Township Police began investigating after relatives noticed irregular transactions in the victim’s accounts while settling her estate. Bank records revealed multiple withdrawals and transfers totaling more than $20,000, many of which occurred days after the woman’s death.
Investigation and Charges
Detectives executed search warrants at both suspects’ residences, recovering documents, stolen financial statements, and several of the victim’s personal items.
Both defendants were arrested and charged with:
- Theft by unlawful taking
- Receiving stolen property
- Access device fraud
- Criminal conspiracy
The Bucks County District Attorney’s Office says additional charges could be added as investigators review other financial records.
Community Impact
Authorities called the theft “deeply disturbing” and said the case highlights the vulnerability of elderly residents, particularly those living alone.
“This was a deliberate act of betrayal against a trusting neighbor — and continued even after her death,” said Bucks County District Attorney Jennifer Schorn. “We will seek full restitution and accountability for this conduct.”
Officials also encouraged families to regularly monitor the finances of elderly relatives and to report suspicious activity immediately to local law enforcement.
Next Court Appearance
Both suspects were arraigned before a district judge and released on bail pending their next court hearing.
The names of the defendants are being withheld until formal court documents are unsealed by the Bucks County Court of Common Pleas.
