WASHINGTON, D.C. — A man was taken into custody early Wednesday morning after a van crashed into a security barrier outside the White House, prompting a rapid response from federal law enforcement.

According to the United States Secret Service, the vehicle struck a temporary security barrier positioned along the White House perimeter shortly before 6:30 a.m. Officers assigned to the complex quickly moved in and detained the driver at the scene.

Authorities secured the area surrounding the crash while investigators inspected the vehicle as a precaution. A bomb squad was called in to examine the van, but officials later determined the vehicle did not pose an explosive threat.

No injuries were reported during the incident.

Federal investigators are now working to determine what led to the crash and whether the driver intentionally struck the barrier. The individual remains in custody as authorities continue to review the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The White House complex remained secure throughout the response, though nearby streets and access points were temporarily restricted while officers cleared the scene.

Officials have not yet released the identity of the driver or announced potential charges.
