A firefighter from the Wichita Fire Department died in the line of duty while responding to a mutual aid fire in Haysville, south of Wichita. Fire Chief Tammy Snow confirmed the tragic news, expressing the department’s deep sorrow. The incident occurred at the 9800 block of S. Laura, where crews from Sedgwick County Fire, Derby Fire, McConnell Fire, and WFD quickly brought the fire under control. Unfortunately, the firefighter was the only individual injured in the incident. The firefighter, belonging to the WFD, was found unconscious and not breathing, but further details about the cause were not immediately disclosed.

Chief Snow emphasized the immense risks that firefighters undertake in their noble and selfless service during a news conference, acknowledging the profound loss experienced by the department and the firefighter’s family.
