WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. — Firefighters from across Lehigh County responded to a fourth alarm fire late [day/time if known] at a four-story apartment building in Whitehall Township.
The fire broke out at 1 Maryland Circle, where crews arrived to find heavy smoke and fire showing from the first floor of the building. As conditions worsened and concerns grew about fire spread throughout the structure, command upgraded the response, ultimately striking a fourth alarm to bring in additional manpower and resources.
Firefighters worked aggressively to knock down the fire while conducting searches and protecting upper floors of the building. Ladder companies were seen operating on multiple sides of the structure as crews battled intense smoke conditions.
At this time, no official word has been released regarding injuries or the number of residents displaced. Fire officials have not yet confirmed the cause of the fire, and the incident remains under investigation.
Emergency crews remained on scene for an extended period as overhaul operations continued and hot spots were addressed. Motorists were advised to avoid the area while fire apparatus and emergency personnel operated at the scene.
This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available
