A Chester County man is facing multiple criminal charges, including felony child endangerment and driving under the influence, after police say he was stopped while allegedly impaired with a 9-year-old child inside his vehicle.
According to Montgomery Township Police, the incident occurred around 2:08 a.m. Friday on Bethlehem Pike near North Wales Road.
Police say an officer observed a Volkswagen Jetta traveling northbound on Bethlehem Pike when it began operating erratically. According to court documents, the vehicle allegedly drifted between lanes, briefly entered a left-turn lane before abruptly returning to the travel lane without signaling, crossed the center lane line multiple times, and was also being operated while the driver was wearing an earbud.
The driver was identified as Kevin Michael Doran, 38, of Coatesville, Chester County.
During the traffic stop, officers determined Doran’s Pennsylvania driver’s license had been suspended as the result of a previous DUI conviction, according to the criminal complaint.
Investigators allege Doran showed several signs of impairment, including slurred speech, bloodshot and glassy eyes, the odor of an alcoholic beverage, and difficulty maintaining his balance. Police say he admitted to consuming alcohol before driving and displayed additional signs of impairment while performing standardized field sobriety tests.
Authorities also discovered a 9-year-old girl was riding in the vehicle at the time of the stop.
According to the criminal complaint, Doran was taken into custody and transported for DUI processing, where police say he refused to submit to a blood test.
Doran has been charged with:
- Felony Endangering the Welfare of a Child
- Misdemeanor Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol
- Driving while operating privilege is suspended due to a prior DUI
- Multiple summary traffic violations
The case will proceed through the Montgomery County court system. All charges are allegations, and Doran is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
