Residents across the Lehigh Valley, Bucks County, Berks County and surrounding areas should prepare for another round of potentially dangerous weather today as forecasters warn of strong to severe thunderstorms capable of producing flash flooding, damaging winds and frequent lightning.

A Flood Watch remains in effect beginning this morning and continuing through the overnight hours for much of eastern Pennsylvania, including Lehigh, Northampton, Berks, Upper Bucks, Lower Bucks, Montgomery, Chester, Delaware and Philadelphia counties. Forecasters warn that multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms could bring excessive rainfall, leading to rapidly developing flash flooding.

Some storms may become severe during the afternoon and evening, with damaging wind gusts posing the primary threat. Torrential downpours could produce rainfall rates exceeding an inch per hour, and localized areas may receive several inches of rain if storms repeatedly move over the same location.

Low-lying roads, small streams, urban areas and locations with poor drainage will be especially susceptible to flooding. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution and never attempt to drive through flooded roadways.

What to Expect Today

  • ⛈️ Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms
  • ⚠️ Strong to severe storms possible this afternoon and evening
  • 🌧️ Heavy rainfall with a risk of flash flooding
  • 💨 Damaging wind gusts possible
  • ⚡ Frequent lightning with any stronger storm
  • 🌡️ Warm and humid conditions ahead of the storms

Emergency officials encourage residents to keep multiple ways to receive weather warnings throughout the day, especially if they have outdoor plans.

If a Flash Flood Warning or Severe Thunderstorm Warning is issued for your area, seek shelter immediately and avoid traveling unless absolutely necessary.

Today’s weather has the potential to change quickly, and conditions will continue to be monitored as storms develop across eastern Pennsylvania
