ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Allentown police have released official information regarding a dog attack Wednesday afternoon that left three people injured and resulted in an officer shooting and killing the animal.
The incident was initially reported Wednesday afternoon near Phoebe Allentown, where First Source News received information that police had fired shots during an incident involving a dog.
According to a media release issued Thursday by the Allentown Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 2:09 p.m. Wednesday, August 12, to the 1900 block of Turner Street for a report of a loose dog biting multiple people.
Police said officers located the dog upon arrival. The dog then allegedly charged toward an officer, prompting the officer to discharge their duty weapon and kill the animal.
Police located three people who had suffered bite injuries. According to the department, all three victims sustained moderate injuries.
Initial information provided to First Source News by a witness Wednesday indicated that two dogs may have been involved. However, Thursday’s official police release references one loose dog and confirms that one dog was shot and killed by an officer.
The Allentown Police Department said the investigation remains active and ongoing. Police said no additional comment will be provided at this time regarding the investigation.
