RICHLAND TWP., Pa. — Wind and rain did not stop runners from hitting the Upper Bucks Rail Trail Saturday morning for the 7th Annual Jack-O-Lantern 5K and 10K.
The event, held Saturday, September 26, from approximately 8 a.m. until 11 a.m., brought runners to the Richland Township and Quakertown area for the annual Halloween-themed race benefiting Richland Township Fire & Rescue.
Participants made their way along the scenic Upper Bucks Rail Trail while dealing with wet and windy conditions from a nor’easter affecting the region.
For runners looking for an additional challenge, organizers once again offered the popular Pumpkin Challenge.
Participants could select a pumpkin weighing between approximately two and five pounds and carry it for the duration of the race. Those who successfully completed the challenge were able to take the pumpkin home and received an additional medal.
The unusual challenge added some Halloween spirit to the event while helping raise support for the local fire department.
Despite the less-than-ideal weather, runners turned out Saturday morning and braved the wind and rain for a good cause.
The Jack-O-Lantern 5K and 10K has become an annual fall tradition in the Upper Bucks area, bringing together runners, families and community members while supporting Richland Township Fire & Rescue.
