HELLERTOWN, Pa. — Saucon Valley School District is closed today, Friday, Oct. 23, after district officials learned Thursday evening of a threat made against the district.
In a notice posted on its website, the district said it was closing all schools “out of an abundance of caution.” It did not say what kind of threat it was or how it was received.
What families need to know:
- All Saucon Valley schools are closed today.
- Students enrolled at Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical School may still attend, but they must provide their own transportation. Students who cannot get there will be excused.
- There is no district transportation to non-public schools today.
- All athletics and extracurricular activities are postponed until further notice.
- The district says it will share updates on scheduled games on Saturday.
As of Friday morning, police had not released any information about the threat or said whether anyone has been identified.
Second threat closure this year
This is at least the second time in 2026 that a threat has shut down the district. In February, Lower Saucon Township Police were contacted by the middle school about a possible threat involving a firearm, and the district closed on Thursday, Feb. 26. The district said that threat was reported through social media, text messages, Safe2Say reports and phone calls. Police quickly identified a juvenile, who was charged with terroristic threats and related offenses through Northampton County Juvenile Probation.
The district has dealt with similar disruptions before. In March 2024, back-to-back bomb threats closed Saucon Valley schools for two straight days. Police searched the campus and found no evidence to support the threat. In February 2023, a North Carolina man was charged after threatening a shooting at the district, which closed schools on Feb. 22.
Anyone with information about Thursday’s threat is urged to contact Lower Saucon Township Police or submit a tip through Safe2Say Something at 1-844-SAF2SAY.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
