At 8:08 p.m. on September 14, 2024, the East Greenville Police responded to a domestic-related call in the 100 block of Cherry Street after an 18-year-old called 911 to report a physical assault. Upon arrival, officers found a man barricaded in the basement of the home and threatening harm to law enforcement. Even after additional police from multiple agencies responded, the individual refused to cooperate. Despite numerous attempts to negotiate with the individual, he continued to pose a threat. At 11:30 p.m., police officers breached the basement door and found the man armed with a machete and hatchet. He charged at the officers and ignored commands to drop the weapons. After an attempt to taser the suspect failed to stop him, an Upper Perk police officer discharged his firearm, fatally striking the man. Although police officers provided aid, the man was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:05 a.m. on September 15, 2024.
Following the protocol for officer-involved shootings, Montgomery County Detectives are investigating the incident. At this time, the names of the man and the police officer involved in the shooting have not been released.
