A man is recovering in the hospital after being shot by police Saturday night during a tense confrontation with neighbors in Buckingham Township, Bucks County. He is expected to face charges from the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office once he is released from medical care.

Bucks County District Attorney Jennifer Schorn issued a statement on Sunday night detailing the incident, which occurred on the 4800 block of Redfield Road. The confrontation involved a man allegedly armed with a chain who confronted a Buckingham police officer.

According to the DA, the fracas began when the man, who was driving recklessly, crashed a white van into a parked pickup truck. Following the crash, he allegedly pursued neighbors while wielding a weapon and shouting politically and religiously charged statements. When officers arrived at the scene, the man allegedly advanced toward one of the officers. The officer deployed a Taser, but it was ineffective. The officer then fired his weapon at the man.

After the shooting, the officer rendered aid until medical personnel arrived, and the man was transported to Doylestown Hospital, where he remained as of Sunday, according to Schorn. Charges against him are anticipated soon.

The investigation revealed that the man’s reckless driving began around 4 p.m. on Saturday, leading to the crash into the parked pickup truck that was hitched to a cargo trailer. Witnesses stated that he chased several residents into their home while shouting at them, prompting them to lock themselves inside for safety.

Police recovered two weapons from the suspect, whose name has not been disclosed by the District Attorney’s Office. In accordance with protocol, all police-involved shootings in Bucks County are investigated by county detectives and subsequently reviewed by the District Attorney’s Office.
