ALLENTOWN, Pa. — A two-alarm fire caused significant damage to a home in Allentown on Thursday night, drawing a large emergency response to the city’s East Side.
Fire officials say crews were dispatched shortly after 9 p.m. to the 600 block of North Sherman Street, near Hanover Avenue, after reports of heavy smoke and flames coming from a residence.
When firefighters arrived, they were met with intense flames and heavy smoke pouring from the upper floors of the house. Crews quickly established a water supply and struck a second alarm to bring in additional manpower and equipment.
Despite the aggressive fire attack, the blaze caused extensive damage to the upper levels of the home. There were no immediate reports of injuries, and investigators are working to determine what sparked the fire.
Neighbors looked on as firefighters worked late into the night to bring the flames under control.
