
Expect delays, detours, and temporary parking changes during critical PennDOT work
QUAKERTOWN, Pa. (August 1, 2025) β Motorists traveling through Quakertown Borough and Richland Township should prepare for significant traffic disruptions as PennDOT begins a major road closure on northbound Route 309 starting Sunday, August 4 through Thursday, August 8.
The closure is part of a $15.9 million stormwater pipe replacement project, which officials say is vital to improving long-term drainage infrastructure in the area. While the full closure is scheduled for five days, PennDOT hopes to complete the work within a 24-hour window on Tuesday, August 5, weather permitting.
π§ Detour Details
The initial detour proposed by PennDOT was deemed unsuitable for large trucks. As a result, an alternate route has been established for tractor-trailers and commercial vehicles:
- Broad Street/Route 313 β
- 4th Street β
- Mill Street β
- N. Hellertown Ave/Route 212 β
- Pumping Station Road β back to Route 309
π« Temporary No Parking Zones
To facilitate emergency access and accommodate turning trucks, temporary βNo Parkingβ signs will be posted in the following locations:
- North side of Broad Street from Main Street to 4th Street
- East side of North Hellertown Avenue from Mill Street to Heller Road
- Both sides of 4th Street

Due to anticipated traffic backups, all trash and recycling collection will begin at 5:00 AM during the week of August 4. Residents are advised to place their bins out the night before their scheduled pickup day to avoid missed service.
