ALLENTOWN, Pa. – A major investment is coming to the Lehigh Valley’s medical manufacturing sector. Gov. Josh Shapiro announced this week that B. Braun Medical Inc. will invest $20 million to expand its Allentown facility, a project that will create about 200 new jobs and secure more than 1,700 existing positions.

Shapiro joined company officials for the announcement, calling the expansion proof that Pennsylvania is “open for business” and highlighting its importance for both the local economy and the state’s life sciences industry.

Boost for Local Economy

The additional jobs are expected to provide a direct benefit to families in the Lehigh Valley while strengthening Allentown’s tax base. Officials say the expansion also brings new opportunities for small businesses and suppliers that work with B. Braun.

“These are family-sustaining jobs that will keep our communities strong,” Shapiro said.

Reinforcing Life Sciences and Manufacturing

B. Braun has long been a key player in the region’s life sciences sector, manufacturing essential medical products used nationwide. The expansion will increase production capacity and further establish the Lehigh Valley as a hub for advanced medical device manufacturing.

Preparing the Workforce

Workforce training will play a critical role in filling the new positions. Local partners, including community colleges and trade schools, are expected to work with B. Braun to ensure residents have the technical skills needed for manufacturing, quality control, and logistics roles.

A Broader Economic Strategy

The investment aligns with Gov. Shapiro’s economic development strategy, which emphasizes retaining employers, expanding advanced manufacturing, and investing in workforce readiness.

“This isn’t just about one company,” Shapiro said. “It’s about growing Pennsylvania’s economy and making sure the Lehigh Valley continues to thrive.”

B. Braun’s expansion solidifies its long-term commitment to the region while positioning Allentown as a critical player in Pennsylvania’s manufacturing future
