
RICHMOND TOWNSHIP, Pa. (BERKS COUNTY) β A deadly crash involving multiple vehicles, including a tractor-trailer, shut down a portion of Route 222 northbound near Kutztown on Monday morning, according to emergency officials.
The crash occurred near the Route 222 overpass in Richmond Township, prompting a massive response from police, fire, and EMS units. Initial dispatch reports indicated multiple injuries, including one person who was ejected from a vehicle. Air medical was requested to the scene shortly after the first crews arrived.
Authorities have since confirmed that at least one person was killed in the collision. The exact number of additional injuries remains unclear as of Monday afternoon.
Traffic was brought to a standstill as emergency crews worked to rescue victims and clear debris from the highway. The northbound lanes of Route 222 were expected to remain closed for an extended period while crash reconstruction teams investigate.
