POTTSTOWN, Pa. — A massive three-alarm fire tore through a former church building early Friday morning in Pottstown, sending heavy smoke into the air and triggering a large multi-agency response to North Hanover Street and Chestnut Street.
Crews were dispatched shortly after 6:20 a.m. for reports of smoke showing from the structure. As firefighters arrived, they encountered intense flames pushing through multiple sides of the building. Due to the size of the structure and the amount of fire, command quickly struck a third alarm, bringing additional companies and ladder trucks to the scene.
Firefighters attacked the blaze from several vantage points, using elevated ladder streams to knock down flames from above while ground crews surrounded the building with handlines. The firefight lasted several hours as crews worked to bring the large structure under control and prevent further spread.
Building Formerly Home to Invictus Ministries
The building previously served as the home of Invictus Ministries Inc., though the ministry confirmed they were no longer active in that location. Despite that, members described the building as a space that hosted years of worship, funerals, weddings, and community outreach.
The historic structure had reportedly been sold and was slated for conversion into residential units. The extent of the destruction now raises questions about future redevelopment.
No Injuries Reported
No injuries were immediately reported. Fire investigators will continue working to determine the cause of the blaze. Crews remained on the scene into the morning addressing hotspots and securing the structure.

Community Impact
The fire drew attention throughout the morning as smoke and flames were visible from blocks away. Residents gathered along sidewalks and nearby intersections to watch as companies battled the intense blaze.
Invictus Ministries asked the community to keep first responders and the neighborhood in their prayers as the investigation continues.
