HAMMONTON, NJ — One person has died following a serious helicopter crash in Atlantic County near 100 Basin Road in Hammonton.
Emergency crews were called to the scene after reports that two helicopters went down, with one aircraft fully engulfed in flames and the second coming down in a nearby wooded area.
Firefighters, police, and EMS arrived quickly and began rescue operations. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Another person was rescued from the wreckage and was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators say units remained on scene for several hours as crews worked to extinguish hot spots and search the surrounding area for any additional victims.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have been notified and are expected to investigate what caused the helicopters to go down. The names of those involved have not yet been released.
Residents are asked to avoid the area while officials continue their investigation.
