A transport van caught fire Wednesday afternoon in the 1000 block of West End Boulevard (Route 309) in Richland Township, according to Richland Township Fire & Rescue.
The incident happened around 4:20 PM. Firefighters arrived quickly and went into service, extinguishing the blaze.
While crews were working the scene, an oxygen tank inside the vehicle suffered a catastrophic failure, causing an explosion. Officials say the tank failure occurred during fire operations, and the cause of the original fire remains unknown.
The crew members on board — as well as the patient who was being transported — were able to exit the van safely.
No injuries were reported to the patient, transport staff, or firefighters.
