ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Firefighters from Allentown and surrounding communities battled a massive three-alarm commercial structure fire late Tuesday night at a building on the 900 block of East Highland Street.
The fire broke out at 913 East Highland Street, with crews arriving to find heavy fire conditions inside the commercial structure. Due to the volume of fire and rapidly deteriorating conditions, command quickly struck a third alarm, bringing in multiple additional companies for manpower, water supply, and coverage.
Flames were reported showing from multiple areas of the building as firefighters worked aggressively to contain the fire and prevent extension to nearby properties. Operations were shifted as conditions warranted, with crews working both defensively and offensively throughout the incident.
A large fireground footprint was established, with road closures in the area as apparatus lined East Highland Street and surrounding blocks. Heavy smoke could be seen throughout the neighborhood.
No official word has been released yet on injuries, occupants inside the building, or the cause of the fire. Fire investigators are expected to remain on scene into the morning hours.
