SHREVEPORT, La. — Eight children between the ages of 1 and 14 were killed in a domestic violence-related mass shooting at two homes in Shreveport early Sunday, according to police. Authorities said 10 people were shot in total in what is being described as the nation’s deadliest mass shooting in more than two years.
Shreveport Police spokesperson Chris Bordelon said the victims were all children ranging in age from about 1 to 14 years old, and that some were related to the suspect. Investigators said the shootings happened at two separate homes south of downtown Shreveport.
Police said the suspect, identified only as an adult male, fled the scene in a stolen vehicle and led officers on a chase into Bossier City. Authorities said officers fired at the suspect during the pursuit, and he later died.
Officials said investigators were still working multiple crime scenes Sunday, including the two homes and a third location connected to the case. Louisiana State Police have joined the investigation.
“This is an extensive scene unlike anything most of us have ever seen,” Bordelon said as investigators continued piecing together what happened.
This remains a developing story.
