WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. — A 74-year-old man has died following a shooting Thursday evening in Whitehall Township, with the Lehigh County Coroner officially ruling the death a homicide.
According to Lehigh County Coroner Daniel Buglio, the victim was pronounced dead at 6:17 p.m. at the scene in the 5100 block of Third Street in the Cementon section of Whitehall Township. Authorities said the man died from multiple gunshot wounds.
Police, Pennsylvania State Police, and the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office responded to the area around Third Street and Laurel Lane shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday for the reported shooting.
Earlier scanner reports indicated officers were searching for a white male wearing a black hoodie following the incident. As of Friday morning, authorities had not confirmed if a suspect was in custody.
Buglio said the victim has been identified and family members have been notified, however the name is not being publicly released at this time to allow the family to grieve privately.
Whitehall Township Police later stated there is “no danger to the public” as the homicide investigation remains active. Additional information is expected to be released by the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office as the investigation continues.
An autopsy is scheduled to be completed Friday.
