Bucks County 9/11 Memorial Vandalized Weeks After 25th Anniversary of Terrorist Attacks

LOWER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Just weeks after the nation marked the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, police in Bucks County are investigating vandalism at a memorial dedicated to those who lost their lives.
The Lower Makefield Township Police Department is investigating damage discovered Tuesday morning, October 6, at the Garden of Reflection 9/11 Memorial in Yardley.
According to police, the vandalism was reported at approximately 8:22 a.m.
Photographs released by investigators show scratches and other damage to glass panels displaying the names of victims of the September 11 attacks. The affected sections include names beginning with the letters S through W.
The Garden of Reflection serves as Pennsylvania’s official September 11 memorial and honors the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
The memorial also pays tribute to 18 Bucks County residents who died in the attacks, including nine from Lower Makefield Township.
The damage comes less than a month after communities across the country gathered to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the attacks.
The memorial has long served as a place of remembrance for families, friends and visitors paying their respects to those who lost their lives.
Police have not announced any arrests or identified anyone responsible for the damage.
The Lower Makefield Township Police Department is continuing its investigation and asking anyone with information about the incident to contact investigators.
