Eagles center Cam Jurgens underwent back surgery on Tuesday to alleviate nerve pain, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Thursday.
Jurgens, 25, was clearly in discomfort as he finished the NFC Championship Game and played in Super Bowl LIX, but he managed to persevere and help the Eagles secure the Lombardi Trophy for just the second time in franchise history. The good news is that Jurgens is expected to make a full recovery in time for training camp in July, according to the report.
Both Jurgens and Landon Dickerson (who has a knee issue) played through pain during the playoffs. Dickerson started the NFC Championship Game at center but had to leave the game, allowing Jurgens to continue and play through the rest. During locker cleanout day, Dickerson informed reporters that he anticipated needing surgery as well.
The Eagles’ offensive line was a significant strength of their Super Bowl-winning team in 2024. Not only did they provide protection for Jalen Hurts, but they also created opportunities for Saquon Barkley, who achieved only the ninth 2,000-yard rushing season in NFL history.
At least four of the five starting linemen are expected to return in 2025. However, right guard Mekhi Becton will become a free agent next month, leaving his future uncertain. Three of the five linemen—Dickerson, Jordan Mailata, and Lane Johnson—are already signed to substantial contracts, and Jurgens is likely to join them after being eligible for a contract extension this offseason, having completed the first three years of his rookie deal.
