Early Friday morning, a fire broke out at an apartment complex in Whitehall Township, damaging twelve units and requiring firefighters to rescue some residents. Fire Chief Mark Bilder reported that crews were dispatched just before 3 a.m. to the apartment complex located at 1 Maryland Circle after receiving reports of a fire.
Although officials did not detect any smoke on the exterior of the building, they encountered smoke and heat conditions on the second floor, stemming from a storage unit. Fire officials police evacuated approximately 400 residents from the building with the assistance of the police while they worked to control the blaze. According to Chief Bilder, it took about 35 minutes to bring the fire under control. Some residents had to be rescued using ladder trucks. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in connection with the fire.
