The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a Heat Advisory for parts of eastern Pennsylvania, including Berks, Lehigh, Northampton, Upper Bucks, Western Chester, and Western Montgomery counties.
The advisory will be in effect from 11 a.m. Thursday, June 11, through 8 p.m. Friday, June 12.
Forecasters say heat index values could reach up to 101 degrees, creating dangerous conditions for anyone spending time outdoors. Hot temperatures combined with high humidity may increase the risk of heat-related illnesses.
Communities included in the advisory area include Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton, Reading, Perkasie, Chalfont, Pottstown, Collegeville, Oxford, and Honey Brook.
Residents are urged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned areas when possible, avoid direct sunlight, and check on relatives, neighbors, children, older adults, and pets.
Anyone working or spending time outside should wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and try to limit strenuous activity to the early morning or evening hours. Officials also remind residents to know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
For today, showers and thunderstorms are expected, especially later in the afternoon. The forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies with a high near 84 degrees. Showers and storms remain likely tonight, mainly before 9 p.m., with a low around 67 degrees.
