QUAKERTOWN, Pa. – Torrential downpours from Wednesday’s severe storms caused significant flooding across parts of Quakertown and Richland Township, leaving drivers and businesses dealing with water-covered roads and parking lots.

Emergency crews were dispatched throughout the evening as runoff from the storm overwhelmed drainage systems. One of the most impacted areas was Broad Street in Quakertown, where standing water made portions of the roadway impassable to smaller vehicles.

In the Joann Fabrics parking lot on West End Boulevard, water pooled several inches deep, forcing customers to wade through water to reach their cars. Nearby businesses reported brief disruptions as the flooding lingered before slowly draining away.

On Route 309 near the Salvation Army store, traffic slowed to a crawl as vehicles navigated through large sections of water covering both lanes. Officials urged motorists to use caution and avoid flooded roadways whenever possible.

The National Weather Service had issued a flood advisory earlier in the evening, warning of heavy rain capable of producing localized flooding in low-lying areas. By nightfall, the rain had tapered off, but high water remained in several spots until crews and improving drainage cleared the way.

No injuries were reported, though officials continue to remind residents never to attempt driving through flooded roadways.
