
Emergency crews were called shortly after 9 p.m. to the 1100 block of East Susquehanna Street for a crash involving an SUV and a motorcycle.
Investigators say the SUV was traveling eastbound on East Susquehanna Street while closely following another vehicle. According to the District Attorney’s Office, the SUV crossed the double yellow line to pass that vehicle on the left and collided head-on with a motorcycle traveling westbound.
The motorcyclist, a 39-year-old Fountain Hill man, was transported to St. Luke’s University Hospital in Bethlehem, where he was pronounced dead at 10:08 p.m., according to the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office.
Officials said the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The driver of the SUV was also injured in the crash. Authorities said the driver has been identified and taken into custody, with criminal charges pending.
The Salisbury Township Police Department and Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the crash. The Lehigh County Crash Team is assisting with the investigation and reconstruction.
The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office & Forensic Center is also involved in the investigation.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, September 14, to assist in determining the motorcyclist’s official cause of death.
The investigation remains ongoing.
