HATBORO, Pa. — William McNichol, 60, was arrested by Hatboro Police after allegedly pulling over another motorist by pretending to be a law‑enforcement officer following a road rage incident on Saturday, June 21.

According to officials with the Hatboro Police Department, McNichol used an unauthorized emergency light mounted on his Dodge Charger to signal a driver to stop at the intersection of South York and Byberry roads. Neither party was injured during the incident.

McNichol, who is not a sworn officer with any Pennsylvania police agency, was taken into custody without resistance after officers responded to a call about a suspicious traffic stop. Hatboro Police say the investigation began when the motorist flagged down a passing patrol car for assistance.

He was charged with harassment and impersonating a public servant, both misdemeanors under state law. McNichol was arraigned in Montgomery County District Court and released on his own recognizance; his next court date is scheduled for July 30.

“Impersonating a police officer undermines public trust and poses serious safety risks,” said a Hatboro Police Department spokesperson. “We take these allegations very seriously and appreciate the community member who reported the incident.”

Anyone with additional information or who may have witnessed the traffic stop is asked to contact the Hatboro Police Department at (215) 675‑5200
