LOWER SAUCON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — One person was injured following a four-vehicle crash involving three tractor-trailers and a transit van on Interstate 78 in Northampton County Monday night.

The crash occurred around 9 p.m. on Monday, October 26, along Interstate 78 near mile marker 64.4 in Lower Saucon Township.

According to a news release from Pennsylvania State Police, a tractor-trailer traveling eastbound crossed the center median and collided head-on with another tractor-trailer traveling westbound.

A third tractor-trailer traveling westbound then struck the truck that had crossed the median, causing it to overturn. A transit van was also struck during the crash.

State police reported that containers of cranberry juice spilled onto the roadway as a result of the collision.

Emergency crews responded to the scene, where hydraulic rescue tools were requested to assist with extrication efforts. One patient was extricated from the wreckage.

According to state police, the driver of the overturned tractor-trailer sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The extent of those injuries has not been released.

The crash forced the closure of both westbound lanes of Interstate 78 between Exit 67 and Exit 60-B for several hours as emergency crews worked to clear the wreckage and roadway.

The highway remained closed overnight, with both westbound lanes reopening around 5:15 a.m. Tuesday, October 27.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the crash.
