APPLETON, Wis. — A powerful tornado swept through eastern Wisconsin Monday afternoon, leaving a trail of destruction across the Fox Cities region as emergency crews continue searching damaged areas, clearing debris, and assessing the full extent of the storm’s impact.
The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado moved through portions of Winnebago and Outagamie counties, producing destructive winds that damaged homes, businesses, public buildings, and critical infrastructure. Communities including Appleton, Menasha, and Fox Crossing experienced some of the most significant damage.
Among the locations impacted was Fox Crossing Fire Station 41, where reports from the scene indicate the station sustained a direct hit from the tornado. Despite the damage, first responders continued operating throughout the emergency as fire, EMS, law enforcement, and public works crews responded to numerous calls across the region.
The storm has also drawn attention from the fire service nationwide following reports of damage at the Pierce Manufacturing campus in Appleton. Pierce is one of the country’s premier manufacturers of custom fire apparatus, building fire engines, ladder trucks, rescue vehicles, and specialty emergency equipment for departments throughout the United States and internationally.
At this time, the extent of any damage to the Pierce Manufacturing facility has not been officially confirmed, and the company has not yet released detailed information regarding its operations following the storm. Damage assessments remain ongoing.
Throughout the affected areas, emergency officials have reported numerous damaged homes and businesses, downed trees, power lines blocking roadways, structural damage, and widespread power outages. Utility crews and emergency responders continue working to restore services while local officials urge residents to avoid damaged areas and use caution around downed utility lines and storm debris.
Authorities have not yet released a complete assessment of injuries or the total amount of damage caused by the tornado. Recovery efforts are expected to continue over the coming days as crews conduct structural inspections and survey the tornado’s path.
This remains a developing story, and First Source News will continue providing updates as additional information becomes available regarding the tornado’s impact, the status of the Pierce Manufacturing facility, and ongoing recovery efforts throughout eastern Wisconsin.
