TWIN FALLS, Idaho — Three people were killed and seven others were injured, several of them critically, after a gunman opened fire Saturday afternoon at a newly opened In-N-Out Burger restaurant in Twin Falls, Idaho.

The shooting occurred shortly after 2 p.m. local time at the restaurant, which had opened just one week earlier on July 24 as part of the company’s expansion into Idaho. The restaurant was packed with customers and employees when gunfire erupted, sending people running for cover throughout the busy shopping center.

Twin Falls Police responded within minutes and later located the body of the suspected gunman near the restaurant. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the suspect is included among the three reported fatalities, and investigators have not released the suspect’s identity or discussed a possible motive.

Seven additional victims were transported to area hospitals, with several listed in critical condition. Officials have not released the identities of those killed or injured as they continue notifying family members. Victims were taken to St. Luke’s Magic Valley Medical Center for treatment.

Witnesses described a chaotic and terrifying scene as shots rang out. One eyewitness reported seeing a man carrying what appeared to be an AR-style rifle before gunfire erupted. Another witness described an armed citizen confronting the suspect, with the two reportedly exchanging gunfire. Police have not officially confirmed the sequence of events surrounding the confrontation, and the circumstances leading to the suspect’s death remain under investigation.

Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks said investigators are working to identify the shooter and determine what led to the attack. The FBI is assisting local authorities as detectives process the extensive crime scene and interview what could be hundreds of witnesses.

“We believe the threat to the community is over,” Hicks said during a news conference. Officials confirmed there is no ongoing danger to the public.

The tragedy has shaken the Twin Falls community and the employees of the newly opened restaurant. In-N-Out Burger said it is cooperating fully with investigators as the company supports employees and those affected by the shooting.

The investigation remains active, and additional information is expected to be released as authorities continue their work.
